ipad for Stephanie
We are getting close to being able to get an ipad for Stephanie to use at home and for therapy. Along with the in home therapy that she gets through the state's in home intensive therapy program there is also family support money to be used on things regarding the needs for the child. Since the ipad has come out there are AAC, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, apps available for communication plus other apps to help her learn basic things such at item matching, colors, numbers, and writing. She was able to try one out last week and had tremendous success. It will be able to teach her so much and she will learn to communicate with it as we continue to work on her language. She has been using a different AAC app at school on a Nintendo DS with her speech teacher and within a few weeks already knows how to get to different screens and she is using it to make choices about what she wants and read stories. She has been all over my parents phone with different apps on them as well on her therapists' phones with either music or videos. All the paperwork is in and signed for we are just waiting for the final approval by the state. Pray that is all goes through smoothly and we should be able to get one with all the wonderful apps by the end of the year.
