The day after Labor day Emily started her first year of all day K5. She was excited but scared. It would be a lot of changes for her, eating lunch, recess with half of the school, taking the bus, having gym, art, and recess, and rest time. The bus and lunch time were the hardest for a couple weeks for her. She said the lunchroom as loud and didn't like having recess with so many kids. So we had a few days of tears again. She didn't like the bus ride because she was worried she couldn't find her classroom from the bus drop off point. So many worries for a 5 year old. Now she has a few 5th graders helping her find her room but she can pretty much do it on her own. The first few weeks she did ask how many days were left of school and when she can stop going to school. This is the easiest school is going to be so if she doesn't like it now it's going to be a long 16+ years of school ahead of her.
Stephanie also started her first year of all day entering 1st grade. After many days of different kinds of hiccups and getting all her needs understood by all things are starting to smooth out. The aide wasn't outside to meet her on her first day of taking the bus (thankfully I followed the bus), she didn't have someone watching her closely at recess again. She had lots of running in the hallways, aggression towards others, terrible problems on the bus, problems with close proximity to other during lunch, and many calls to the principal again. I know it's only been a month into school but for the first time we are starting to think about alternative schools for her. Not sure if it is a good idea for her to be in a school with only special needs kids. Not sure if it is a good fit for her. And don't think her school is going to say they can't handle her so not sure if it something we can afford. But we are at the point that we need to go look at the couple schools that are in the area to see if it is something that might be a better fit for her. Thinking I might need to have some kind of bake sales to raise money for tuition. Who knows. We'll find out more when we go and tour these schools.
It was a little rough on Matthew for the first few weeks of the girls going to school as well. he has adjusted fine and we have our time together a little bit during the week when I have no other kids here.
Hoping the next month of school will go a little smoother.
